Edward Cherney, Chairman
Ed led a recapitalization and joined TIP Capital in 2003 and serves as its Chairman. Ed has forged a lifelong career as an entrepreneurial executive in information technology equipment and leasing businesses.
Prior to joining TIP Capital, Ed was a founding member of Encore International in 1998 which was later sold to AT&T Capital. Following the sale, Ed was responsible for forming and running Systems Leasing, the information technology business segment for AT&T Capital for 10 years, growing the portfolio to over $1 billion. Prior to founding Encore, Ed founded CMI Corporation in 1967, one of the first independent lessors and a pioneer in the leasing of technology equipment.
In addition to being a successful entrepreneur, Ed is actively involved in a number of charities and foundations including the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Sisters of Monroe, Michigan; and Detroit Country Day school. Ed is a past Chairman of the Computer Dealers and Lessors Association (CDLA) and former Board Member of the Equipment Leasing Association (ELA). Ed graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in Finance.
